Our story of serving Vancouver and Richmond since 1984 began when enterprising plumber Richard Tsang recognized an opportunity because of the area’s rapid growth. Specifically, he saw promises within the construction plumbing and plumbing supply sector. Therefore, he established a retail store along with a construction heating and plumbing firm operating under the Wah Fai banner. This brand was conceived because there was a need to cater to an Asian audience. It was there, most practically, to mitigate their challenges due to language barriers. Concerns about unfair pricing for services and parts were common complaints because of the client’s limited exposure to the trade industry.

Additionally, Richard addressed those concerns on a questions and answers talk show program on S.U.C.C.E.S.S radio, AM 1470. He shared his knowledge on topics such as plumbing repairs and construction basics, from 1984 to 1989, and answering questions afterward. The program was popular because it helped the DIYers save time and money. Furthermore, Wah Fai distinguished itself by successfully executing numerous noteworthy commercial and multifamily projects in the Vancouver and Richmond areas. Also, custom homes in Vancouver East and West were commissioned and built by Wah Fai at the same time.

The DIY Central

Promoting the self-help concept garnered significant success. It resonated not only with plumbing and heating customers of Asian descent but also with a broader clientele. Because of its appeal, clients came from far and wide for their project needs. This strategic shift aimed at expanding the firm’s offerings to serve a more diversified clientele because of the ever growing demands. Richard also played a pivotal role in rejuvenating the firm’s image and optimizing its logistical operations across various departments, enabling it to thrive in an increasingly competitive landscape.
